During November, Native Americans and Alaska Natives are recognized for their history, rich culture, and contributions. This became official in 1990 when Congress recognized this month to honor Native communities for their contributions and raise awareness about their heritage.

Natives are the original Americans and have lived here for thousands of years. Before European settlers arrived, they developed unique tribes, languages, and more. They were hunters, skilled farmers, and storytellers. Their traditions shaped early American agriculture, medicine, and environmental knowledge. Despite colonization, forced relocation, and facing assimilation, Native communities preserved their culture, showing their strength and resilience.

Today, Native American Heritage Month highlights the history and their contributions. Many students and communities celebrate by learning about Native tribes, attending cultural events, and even supporting Indigenous businesses or artists. These simple acts help us understand the land's history and honor Native peoples' influence and presence.
