AEC Fantasy Football Update

By Xavier Williams-xw55@uakron.edu and Jacob Albertson-ja245@uakron.edu

8 weeks into the fantasy football season it’s usually evident who’s team has that it factor and the teams that don’t, but it is not completely impossible to turn around a team at this point. The top teams in contention for the playoffs of the AECHS B league are; Robert Ashley, sitting pretty at 8-0 with no signs of slowing down, being carried (literally) by Christian McCaffery’s 25 fantasy points per game. D’Jimon Hodges at 7-1, with Tyreek Hill on pace to have one of the greatest wide receiver seasons of all time with 1,000 yards at the halfway mark of the season, averaging 27 fantasy points per game. Francis Rogers 5-3, riding the hot hands of both Travis Etienne and Aj Brown, who are averaging 21 and 23 fantasy ppg respectively, and Mr. Burger is also at 5-3, taking advantage of Stefon Diggs’ 22 fantasy ppg average. I(Xavier) am currently on the brink of playoff contention after I’ve had many weeks where I ended up benching a guy who could’ve won me a matchup, for example, last week I had Ceedee Lamb drop 44 fantasy points on my bench sadly. Also, there is Mr.Milo who is 4-4, but the majority of those wins came from when his star player, Justin Jefferson was healthy. After the prior teams listed, there are also teams that are not doing so well with the remainder of teams either being 3-5 or 2-6 as a result of poor performances or season-derailing injuries of players.

Things seem a little more competitive for the A-league. There is a three-way tie for first place between Aayush Khatiwada, Bambi Berger, and Maurice Smith; All sitting at a record of 6-2. Notable players on those teams include Aayush’s Tyreek Hill, Berger’s Christian McCaffrey, and Maurice’s Travis Kelce and A.J. Brown. Right beneath them is a two-way tie between Travis McCown and I (Jacob Albertson) at a record of 5-3. After McCown lost Justin Jefferson and James Connor, he had to scour the waiver wire every week in order to stay competitive, his most notable player being quarterback Josh Allen. My team had its struggles early on in the month, but a boom from new WR1 Jordan Addison and a big game from Ceedee Lamb has revived my team. Right on the cusp of playoff contention is Lorie Needham and Nicole Shoenfelt at 4-4. Needham finally being able to start Cooper Kupp back from injury as well as the Chief’s dependency on Harrison Butker should help stabilize her weekly points, and Shoenfelt making a confusing decision by recently benching Tua Tagovailoa for still a solid quarterback in Justin Herbert, along with having D.K. Metcalf and Raheem Mostert help keep her afloat as well. At 3-5 are Brandon Knowles and Terrence Decatur-Boyd, not too far off but almost gone. Basically out of the competition are Jameson Decatur, Dakari Williams, and RJ Greer at 2-6.
