Was one of your New Year’s resolutions to exercise more? If so, you should consider joining the AEC Track Club! Mandatory practice starts the first week of March, and it’s located at Hoban High School (our coach, Mr. O'Neil, also coaches Hoban’s track team, so we work out together). The AEC Track club competes with other Akron high schools. The meets are on Mondays and Thursdays, and the first meet is on March 31. If you are interested in joining, you should come to our optional practice (weather permitting) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We meet after school in Mr. O’Neil’s room and run on the towpath. Running is great for physical and mental health. It is good for the heart, reduces stress, and promotes mental clarity. To see what it’s like to be a part of the AEC running club, here are some experiences from its members.
What is your favorite team workout?
Recovery runs.
Londyn Garden
What is your favorite practice?
Running under the rain. It's been a while since I ran in the rain, so it was fun.

What is your favorite race?
Completing at Indian Valley. It was a flat course, and I was able to beat my personal record. It was the biggest cross-country meet I ever attended, so I was a little scared at the start line. However, once we started, the fear turned to adrenaline, and everything was good. My goal was to either stay with a runner or run past them, and I was able to do that for the first half of the race. For the second part, I was just trying to stay alive. I’m proud to wear blue and gold and represent AEC. The best school to run for.

What is your favorite memory of running club?
The annual AEC 5k. It’s fun to be competitive with your peers, and the race is free. There is nothing to lose; just have fun and run fast!

Why would you recommend people to join AEC run club?
AEC running club is a great environment with disciplined student athletes. The energy and support cannot be found anywhere else. All runners are dedicated to the sport; they show up to practice, try their best, and beat their personal record. It’s a great place to improve your fitness and make new friends.

P.S. If you decide to run with AEC, you CANNOT play a sport for your home high school. Please consider this fact before joining.
