The Red Cross Club is a student-led organization with the goal of making a difference in the community through health education, humanitarian work, and service. Founded by junior Ruby Lemley, who was inspired by her older brother and 2025 AECHS alumnus Jack Lemley, the club continues their shared goal of creating volunteer opportunities for students while helping people in need around Akron. This year, the Red Cross Club hopes to strengthen community health and safety by organizing projects that directly support others. One of the club’s goals this year is to host a blood drive on campus, giving students a chance to help hospitals. The group also plans to offer first-aid and CPR certification, donation drives, and volunteer events that connect members with Red Cross programs in the area. Ruby says the club’s mission is about more than just volunteering  it’s about building a community of students who care. “The Red Cross Club is unique in that we are able to combine volunteering, leadership, and  health and humanitarian services in a way that few others can. Our club has the ability to provide services that save lives and directly impact the well-being of those in need within our communities," she explained. The club is a great fit for anyone interested in healthcare, public service, or giving back. “I highly encourage students to consider joining our club next year, as they will get access to these special opportunities, get volunteer hours by being a part of the club, and, most importantly, get to help people in need.” As the club grows, it aims to become a lasting part of AECHS, a space where students learn to lead with kindness and take action to improve their community.
