AI Outperforming the Government

When the Constitution was written in 1787, the Founding Fathers couldn't have predicted what the future would look like. As we evolve, technology has become a big part of our lives. With the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) being a big topic of discussion, it calls into question how old laws will adjust with new advancements. AI is becoming more concerning with time and our society is trying to find new ways to embrace this tool. Artificial intelligence has become harder to grasp in terms of copyright, regulations, and other laws pertaining technology use. As universities and careers adjust to restricting or using AI as a tool, lawmakers face new challenges.

As confusion arises between what’s real and what’s fake, so has concerns for the safety and privacy of women and minors. With AI’s quick ability to create images based on prompts and its aid in editing, unsolicited deep fake pornography of women and young girls have started to spread around and terrorize the internet. From celebrities to random people on the internet, AI has created a new type of harassment that is harming the health, privacy, and even the end of life. In most recent news, the death of 14 year old Mia Janin has raised awareness on the danger of AI after she committed suicide due to being bullied by a group of boys where they supposedly pasted her face on porn star’s bodies. However, this was not enough to initiate a law being put in place until AI pornagraphy of famous pop star, Taylor Swift, started circulating on social media and the White House was alerted of the harassment. While it’s great news to hear that sexual harassment using AI is being dealt with, many people like Twitter user @joncantdecide are considering why it wasn’t done sooner, “i’m glad they’re introducing laws around ai, but it should not just be because a celebrity is getting harassed…[it] should’ve been introduced eons

ago”. With the advancement with AI, the laws are struggling to catch up.

AI has also been known to take from other sites and take images to make new content, this is popularly known as plagiarism and could play into copyright infringement. It is scary to think that AI can hold power over people. A recent robocall of President Biden, made by AI, has been shown to tell New Hemisphere citizens to not vote in the primaries this last month. As predicted, it added flames to the fire that artificial intelligence has created in our government. Artificial intelligence is slowly taking over our world and outperforming our government. It is time for lawmakers to approach limitations and regulations to prevent AI from harming our society. Is the use of AI ethical? Is it a tool or could it be the downfall of our society?
