An Honest Review: “The Nun ll”

The Nun ll is a mediocre and boring extension to the Conjuring franchise, released on September 8, 2023. A quick summary for those who haven’t watched the movie: In 1956 France, a priest is violently murdered. The protagonist, Sister Irene (played by Taissa Farmiga from the first, The Nun), begins to investigate. In this movie, she comes face to face with the powerful entity Valak once and for all. This movie does not just have the attributes of a successful horror film, such as surprise or suspense. In the flood's runtime, it constantly reuses common old tricks from earlier movies like The Conjuring 1, 2 and 3. Some would say that the returning actors of this film did a wonderful job, although they don’t add much emotion or character development into this film, making this an underwhelming movie.

The Nun II entirely relies on previously seen jump scares as its main source of horror. This film has a weak storyline with little to no evolution from the last movie. Although it features new characters, the movie relies solely off of the fright left off from the first film, and has no sense of individuality

In conclusion, this film lacks creativity and thought. It fails to invoke fear with constant slow pans and loud bangs. It also has cheap CGI that occurs frequently in this movie. If they put more effort into this movie and gave the characters a greater emotional impact, the movie wouldn't have 52% of rotten tomatoes. Our overall rating for this movie is a three out of 10. Unless you're a fan of the conjuring franchise, this movie is not recommended.
