As a sequel to the heavily beloved 1988 original “Beetlejuice,” this movie was considered an extremely adequate film. As many say it’s incomparable to the original, it has received relatively good feedback. The movie begins as three generations of the Deetz family return to the original stomping grounds of the first movie. Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), still haunted by Beetlejuice, realizes her daughter Astrid mistakenly opens the portal to the infamous Afterlife. We thoroughly enjoyed this movie as we found it extremely entertaining and funny, using many aspects of the original films and uniquely incorporating it into the sequel. It was a fun and wholesome experience while maintaining a whimsical feel that was so beloved in the original 1988 “Beetlejuice.” Despite our views, many claimed the movie felt a bit hollow and pointless and had many critiques claiming this film was less than satisfactory. The mixed reviews on behalf of this movie has led returning Beetlejuice fans and new ones to the theaters, tempted to see for themselves.
