On Monday, September 18th, 2023, Nick Chubb was hit below the knee by Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, ending in a season ending injury. The picture would be too disgusting to show, but the injury can only be as bad as you can imagine. As Chubb was being stopped by several Steelers defensive players tackling him, it was Minkah Fitzpatrick's spear-dive with the top of his helmet into Chubb’s knee that bent in what is basically a 90-degree angle. Many have argued over whether the hit was clean or not, and whether the Steelers safety should be fined or suspended.
This is a massive blow to the Cleveland Browns team and fans. Nick Chubb has become the heart of a city that has been plagued with a team that has played worse football than everybody else in the National Football League over the past 20+ years. Racking up the most losses of any other team, the deep roots of football in Cleveland have been one of the few reasons fans still show their support every sunday. Nick Chubb is an icon of what football should be everywhere. He works hard, never misses a game, and is vocal not with his mouth, but what he puts on the football field every week. As a Cleveland Browns fan, Nick Chubb has been one of the only bright spots from this franchise in a long time. This injury is more devastating than any other player could ever have, especially after the death of former Browns running-back and Hall of Famer Jim Brown back in may.
Recent news of Nick Chubb’s injury has come out and shed more light on the situation. Nick Chubb underwent successful knee surgery to repair his medical capsule, meniscus, and medial collateral ligament (MCL). A second surgery will be scheduled in the coming months to repair his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the coming months. With what was once thought to be a possibly career-ending injury for the Browns star running-back, has become an optimistic story where Nick Chubb can come back for the 2024-2025 season.
