How do you Give to Your Community?

By Reese Bennett, rb313@uakron.edu

Have you ever wondered about how people give to their communities? Well, this is the first entry of an ongoing series where several AEC students will be asked how they help their community.

For this story I interviewed Akron Early College Freshman Griffin Davis for reasons as to how and why he goes out of his way to do such things.

How do you help your community?

I often help the community via opportunities of scouting and even school. I want to encourage the publicity of these opportunities so that people can find work that makes a difference easily. I prefer to conduct conservation-based ecological services. I like to find issues, and find out both how to stop it and how to prevent manmade issues from popping up again.

Why do you enjoy your community enough to put this time into it?

The community provides a positive environment and gives ample opportunities to explore. Many people in my community are proactive to make change, which is certainly inspiring.

What do you want to help your community become in the future?

I want a peaceful future for my community, involving people’s growth of inner strength and bonds with each other.

When do you do these things, and how do you find ample time for them?

Programs I am involved with make me able to participate in large projects every three months. There are more small opportunities more regularly, popping up about every 4 weeks.

Where can you find places like these to help?

National Parks can offer great opportunities to help. People can also participate in local groups, whether is is scouting, your church, sports, or even school. There are plenty of places to find in order to help. You’d be surprised what you’ll find!
