The notorious show Shark Tank has produced many talented and popular entrepreneurs, but now one of them has taken a step to revolutionize what healthcare means in the United States.
Mark Cuban has followed business ventures, one of them being in the medical world. This company is named Cost plus its single mission is to make prescription drugs affordable to all that need them, this is quite a big change from the previous big pharma priced drugs that were essential to the survival of so many. The pharmacy is equipped with a website making it easy for people to access their medication.
What has changed?
There is a jaw dropping difference in pricing, for instance one of the medications offered for heart failure costs $120 retail but is only $10 at Cost Plus. There is a grand array of drugs available ranging from physical to mental. But one of the most impressive achievements with this company would be to make insulin affordable with 34.2 million diabetic Americans. You would think their life saving medication would be affordable. Wrong. The average cost of insulin for a person with Type 1 diabetes is $1,000 this is with poor health insurance coverage (which is very common in the U.S).This is simply not normal seeing as this disease can be genetic and the exact cause is unknown. Citizens having to ration their medication putting themselves in great danger just to be able to feed themselves and pay rent is not normal. With this company Mark Cuban strives to release insulin at the price of $170 for a total of 12 vials this would be enough for 3 months, although the price is still quite steep for something as essential as insulin it’s a step forward. There are hopes that this company will open the eyes of the American public and government and make way for change by addressing the problem head on.
Healthcare is not a luxury, it is a right
