Student Council is one of the largest organizations here at Akron Early College. We organize many events, including the Winter Formal dance. We have four officer roles that are voted on at the end of each school year. These four roles are President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The individuals were each interviewed and hope you guys can get to know them a little more from this article!

Lena Cao: President

Hi, my name is Lena Cao, and I am currently a junior, soon to be a senior. I’m excited to be serving as the Student Council President for the 2025-2026 school year. I’ve been a part of the Student Council since my freshman year, and for all three years, I’ve been involved in the design/marketing committee, serving as its chair for the past two years. One of my favorite parts of being in Student Council is collaborating with the team in the design committee and seeing the creative posters that our members bring to life. As president, I am dedicated to fostering a stronger sense of community at AEC, creating a more welcoming and connected atmosphere, and introducing new, innovative ideas and events that will engage the entire school. Outside of my role in Student Council, I hope to be someone any student can turn to—whether they need help with school, advice, or just someone to talk to.

Mia McPhatter: Vice-President

Hi, my name is Mia McPhatter. I’m a junior, but I will be a senior in a couple of weeks. For the 2024-2025 school year, I have been serving as the treasurer for Student Council, but I will now be the Vice President for 2025-2026. I have been in Student Council since my freshman year, for all three years, going on four. All my time in Student Council, I have been involved in the event committee. One of my favorite parts of being Student Council is the whole process of planning the dance. I love being able to work hard for months, and the final product is perfect, and everyone can enjoy it. As vice president, I plan to make sure everyone is comfortable with everything going on and feels the school is a safe space to foster ideas and creativity.

Elaine Zhu: Secretary

Hi, my name is Elaine Zhu, and I am a sophomore right now. I am nominated to be Student Council’s secretary for the 2025-2026 school year. This is my first year joining Student council, and I’m part of the designing/marketing committee. My favorite part of student council is the fact I get to work with others and contribute to events happening in my school. I really enjoyed creating and designing posters to promote upcoming events. As the council’s secretary, I will make sure to play my role diligently by making sure there won’t be any mistakes as well as communicating with everyone. I hope to make this experience enjoyable for everyone.

Andréa Johnson: Treasurer

Hi, my name is Andréa Johnson, and I am currently a junior, soon to be a senior! I'm excited to serve as the Student Council Treasurer for the 2025-2026 school year. I've been a part of the Student Council since my sophomore year and I've been an active member in the design and marketing committee, even serving as its co-chair for one year. One of my favorite parts of being in Student Council is collaborating with the design committee and seeing how each person’s strengths contribute to an innovative idea. As treasurer, I’m responsible for managing the council’s budget and ensuring funds are used wisely to support student events. Beyond my role as treasurer, I hope to help organize more interactive events that encourage student involvement, including those who may not be as social!
