This spring sports season brings many popular sports and boy's volleyball is no outlier as it has been on the rise in recent years. Representing Akron Early College while playing for North High School are Marn Rot, Abraham Applewhite, Anthony Vang, and Zar Aung. Abraham and Anthony currently play for North’s freshman team, while Marn and Zar play for the JV team.
Thursday the 23rd North’s JV went against Firestone and won 2-0. Marn expressed he felt great after the win, especially since he is playing alongside a good team. Marn is currently a setter for the JV team, but is also able to play all around the court. As the season started, Marn was placed on the freshman team but has moved up into JV, where he is a starter. Marn stated that he is enjoying his first season of volleyball and plans to continue playing.
Along with Marn, it is also Abraham’s first year playing volleyball. Abraham currently plays for the freshman team and is focused on becoming a setter while learning and playing all around the court. Abraham expressed his optimism about the current season and plans on continuing his volleyball career.
Anthony and Zar both play as outside hitters, although Anthony often plays all around the court. For all four of these players, it is their first year, but they have seen improvements in their skills rapidly thanks to the help of their coaches. Their coaches want them to succeed, which is why they frequently challenge their players to become better. Leading to improvement as Marn believes it is with his coach's guidance that he was able to move into JV as quickly as he has. Their coaches are also easy to get along with, as they are regularly able to joke with players.
It is only the beginning of the season, and it is definitely a good start to the season. As the season progresses so will the players and there seems to be only positivity and optimism coming from the players of the North boy’s volleyball team.
