In fourth grade, I picked up my first ever Percy Jackson book. From then on, I was hooked. I

started with the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, then the Heroes of Olympus series, and finally ending with the Trials of Apollo series. While I did read the rest of Rick Riordan’s writing, Percy Jackson stuck with the most. I grew up with him. We were the same age when I started reading the first book, and that is why I was so excited when the newest installment of the original Percy Jackson and the Olympians was announced. Percy and his friends would be coming back for another adventure and they would once again be my age!

This story follows the original trio of Grover Underwood, Annabeth Chase, and Percy Jackson, who were featured predominantly in The Lightning Thief, as seniors in high school. Percy is trying to apply to his dream college when, as always, there comes a catch. He has to complete three quests for three different gods in order for him to get recommendation letters for New Rome University. Grover, Percy, and Annabeth are sent on one final quest. Riordan takes the most mundane aspects of applying for university, teacher recommendations, and spins it into a mythological adventure full of new gods and monsters never seen before, all while adding in the humor and sarcasm from the original series.

Since Percy Jackson has such a special place in my heart, I loved reading this new book. As soon as it was released, I was dying to get my hands on it, and it did not disappoint. I was surprised how much the writing sounded like Percy from the original series, and, every time I sat down to read, a wave of nostalgia would wash over me. I loved, once again, being able to take a look into Percy’s mind after everything that had happened in the previous books. These books will always remind me of the best parts of my childhood, and it was such a gift to be able to experience that yet again.
