Jordan Peele’s movie production company, MonkeyPaw Productions, put out a movie titled, HIM. Starring Tyriq Withers, he plays a football athlete by the name of Cameron Cade. During the game season, Cameron gets a brain-injury, and he starts to surrender to the idea that all is lost, and that his dreams might never be a reality. However, Marlon Wayans, who plays the role of Isaiah White, has a great resume in the world of football, and he invites Cameron to come train with him. For a while, everything Cameron does is good, until good isn’t enough anymore. Cameron starts to come to the realization that fame and fortune have a dark side. He finds out the hard way that success in the industry isn’t always about work ethic and determination, but more about sacrifice and greed. The reviews on the movie are varied, while some deem the movie to be good with a plethora of symbolism, others think it was stupid, and had no real plot. Despite the public’s thoughts, we think that the movie was amazing, and had a lot of symbolism to depict the message. Shakespeare couldn’t have said it any better, “Fair is foul, and foul is fair.” This movie was really a wake up call to society to make them realize that people that are in places of power or have a high status, maybe didn’t get there the way we think they did. In a world where success is greatly praised, it is important to know that not all success equates to hard work.
