Scream VI is the second installment of the new trilogy of the Scream franchise. It follows the original trilogy which is Scream 1-3 and the standalone movie Scream 4. It is a requel trilogy that emulates its predecessors with similar locations, legacy characters, characters that are callbacks to other characters in previous films. Like all Scream movies it will leave you jumping out of your seats from the amazing kills but also laughing because of how self-aware the characters are.
Scream (2022) focuses on Sam Carpenter, who, along with her boyfriend Richie, goes back to her hometown of Woodsboro after her sister Tara is attacked by the new Ghostface killer. This attack basically puts the killer's plan in action. We are introduced to the rest of our main cast, which is Tara’s friend group, which includes the twins Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, Wes Hicks, Amber Freeman, and Liv McKenzie. Chad and Mindy are the nephew and niece of Randy Meeks from the first two Scream movies, Wes Hicks who is the son of Sheriff Judy Hicks that was previously the deputy in Scream 4, Liv McKenzie is a callback to the opening scene of the original Scream. Later in the movie they bring back the legacy character trio that consists of Dewey Riley, Gale Weathers, and the OG final girl of Scream, Sidney Prescott. We learn that Sam has a secret that is part of Ghostface's motive. With the Ghostface running around trying to capture the essence of the first Stab movies, the typical hijinks ensues with great kills and emotional scenes.
Scream VI, follows a year after the previous movie following Chad, Mindy, Tara, Sam, and their new friend group which consists of Ethan Landry, the geeky nerdy boy; Quinn Bailey, the daughter of Officer Bailey: and Anika Kayoko, the girlfriend of Mindy. We also bring back the legacy characters of Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed; a survivor of the 2nd Woodsboro Massacre in Scream 4. Scream VI, much like Scream 2 is set at a college but rather than being in Ohio, Scream 6 is set in New York. Emulating Scream 2, our killer is looking for revenge, leaving subtle hints and old evidence. It also brings into the newest, most interesting set piece, the Ghostface shrine. With it being a sequel to Scream (2022) you can expect a bigger body count with kills that are more brutal, and an unbeatable killer. Scream VI is still a rather new movie so, I recommend you go see it, and I’m sure you’ll be surprised.
