Kalei Sanders has been an officer for 10 years. She worked for the Akron City Police Department for 9 years and has been working for the University of Akron Police Department for 1 year at the Polsky building. She is also the school resource Officer at AECHS and is responsible for our school's safety and crime prevention.

For her education, she attended Canton Early College the first year they had the program. Sanders got her associate's degree at the age of 17. Then, she went to Kent State for two more years to get her Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. After that, she trained at Akron Police Academy for around 5 months, graduating at 21. She became an official officer of the law in 2013.

Here on campus, she ensures the safety of university students, faculty, and staff. She patrols the area and surroundings for people who don’t belong in the buildings. She also creates connections with students and staff. As a child, she didn’t grow up in the safest environment. This inspired her to create a safer place for others. She wants people and residents to feel safe for simple tasks such as taking out the trash. She believes people should not have to live in fear because of crime and violence.

Outside of her professional life, she loves reading. A book she really enjoyed was The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. She also has a 9-year-old son. Her family loves sports and are big fans of the Kansas City Chiefs.
