Barberton Mum Fest is an annual event taking place in late September. It has been going on for over 30 years and is located around Lake Anna in downtown Barberton. It features an elaborate design of chrysanthemums, a unique sand sculpture made by a local artist, a jet ski performance, and countless local vendors. It is always exciting to see what the new design for the flowers and sand sculpture is each year. This year’s mum design was a selection of Halloween items including ghosts, pumpkins, and bats. The colors of the mums are so vibrant; it really is beautiful. There is so much to see and do here, it makes for a really fun event.
Seeing as though it is currently October, one can infer that this festival has already come and gone. While that is true, there are tons of festivals all over Akron and the surrounding area. The Mum Fest and others like it are so important to a community. It helps countless small businesses that show up as vendors to sell their food, drinks, or handmade items. It also supports local artists and performers who perform at the festival. Most importantly, it brings the community together. With so many things online, it can be easy to feel disconnected from the community. Events like this have sponsors from local businesses and tons of volunteers to set up the event; it shows that people still care about the people near them. So, I would encourage everyone to seize the opportunity to attend community events like this whenever possible, and come to Barberton next September for the Mum Fest!
