The tale of Hachishaku-sama (The Eight-Foot-Tall Woman) is roughly based on an urban legend. Hachishakusama is rumored to prey on young japanese children, usually between the ages of nine and eleven. The tale started making its works in 2008 on a Japanese message board, 2chan. The story is told from a first-person perspective. The Story-Teller claims to have been visting her grand-parents in Japan one year, but was forced to flee because of her encounter with Hachishaku-sama. The protagonist survived, but was never to return to Japan again, or so she says.
Hachishaku-sama is an eight-foot-tall woman who is often spotted in a long, white dress. When Hachishaku-sama is near, you would hear one sound being repeated, “po”. The sound is used to lure children away from their guardians. Hachishaku-sama repeats the sound “po” in a deep, masculine voice, this is a sign you’ve been “liked” by Hachishaku-sama. Some say it looks like a haggard old woman in a kimono and others say it’s a young girl in a funeral shroud. Hachishaku-sama appears different depending on who sees it, but there’s one thing that never changes, no matter who describes it: Its sound and Its height. A long time ago, Hachishaku-sama was captured by monks: they managed to confine it a ruin. With 4 buddhas placed in the corners north, south, east, and west of the ruins, it was trapped, until it escaped. The last known sighting is back in 2003. Anyone who saw Hachishaku-sama was destined to die within a few days.
Fortunately, there is a way to prevent your fate. There is a procedure that must be preformed in order to live. You must stay alone in a room, with the windows covered in newspaper with ancient runic symbols on them. You must stay in the room until sunrise; seven thirty in the morning. Hachishaku-sama often taps on the windows or mimics the sound of the victims loved ones. Hachishaku-sama uses these tactics to get them to come out of the safe room.
Only few have escaped the grasp of Hachishaku-sama.
