This year the University of Akron has launched an exciting new program called Zips Invade. This program is a partnership between the university and various local businesses to incentivize students to patronize Akron’s mom-and-pop shops. The businesses will typically offer either free items or a discount to any student with a zip card. So far this year, Diamond Deli has offered free sandwiches, Nomz in Northside Marketplace gave away free specialty drinks, and several other places have participated. This promotion happens only on certain days and is announced on the University of Akron’s Facebook page. The Zips Invade program is not only a great way to save a couple of dollars on lunch but it’s also a great way to discover new local restaurants that need our support. So be sure to check out the next Zips Invade Day to find a new restaurant to explore!
